Week 9 Outline

Q Outline of Logos and Pathos for Section 2 This is only an outline to get you started on your draft, and so that I can see you are on a successful path. Your actual essay will include explanation, analysis, and detail in each body paragraph. It will also include all of the normal introductory and concluding material expected in an essay. None of those things are included in this outline • For this outline you will write your thesis statement which should include each of your two to four subclaims that support your stance on the controversial issue. • You will need to turn each of those subclaims into a topic sentence for a body paragraph. • Then, for each paragraph you will include at least one piece of quoted or paraphrased evidence from your research to support the reason in your topic sentence. Include the source citation as well. If you only have 2 reasons, then you should only have 2 paragraphs. The number of reasons equals the number of paragraphs. If you don’t have four reasons, delete the paragraphs you don’t need on this outline. • You will need to include a concession and refutation in at least one body paragraph. Delete all of the spaces for concession and refutation except the one you will use. You may include more than one if you want to. • You will also need to include at least two examples of pathos in your essay. Remember that pathos can include vivid imagery, figurative language and words with highly emotional connotation, and personal anecdotes. Delete all the spaces for pathos except the two you will use. You may include more. • Remember that each body paragraph in the final essay must include 2 appeals to logos. That can include 2 pieces of evidence, or 1 piece of evidence and one piece of logical reasoning such as concession & refutation, or cause & effect, or comparison & contrast.
